Gone are the days of not being able to “see” your children every day.  Calling your children on the phone, particularly very young kids, is sometimes challenging as they can lack focus to say much more than “hi and bye”.  So upgrade to Video conferencing!

Connecting with your children via video is much more rewarding.  You can see them and they can see you.  You can even record the call so that you can replay the video to see them again if you are having a bad day and need a bit of love and light.

Video allows you to make eye contact; they can show you the picture they made in school and you can share stuff you want to show them.  With the screen share feature you can help them do homework, read a paper they are working and help them edit.  You will get a much better sense of their mood and they will tend to stay with you a bit longer on video.

Your younger children benefit greatly to see their parents.  While you may think that talking to your children is meeting your needs, your kids need you as much, if not more, than you need them. So make time for this and make it a habit.

If you are not tech savvy, do a Google search  on “How do I use Skype or Facetime”.  There are a number of tutorials and YouTube video’s that can lend a hand.

Put this concept in your parenting agreement or property settlement agreement if you can.  As you prepare for your divorce keep the needs of your children front and center and try to lift the burden of the process off their shoulders as much as you can.

Cheers
